Mini Project #3-Alex Schultheis
First of all I was shocked by how many times I had talked about celebrities. I had no idea, before doing this experiment, that I spend such a large chunck of my time gossiping about famous people. In my log I approximately spent two hours of time talking about celebrities and six hours of time watching various shows on them. It is crazy to think that I spent eight hours obsessing over people that I have never met and have absolutely no impact on my life. What I found most interesting about doing this experiment; however, was the type of things I talked about when talking about celebrities; through this experiment I realized that I am very critical of them. I spent a large amount of my two hour celebrity talk time criticizing what they were wearing, how their hair looked, and their love lives not to mention all of the critical side comments I made while watching the six hours of the celebrity geared shows.
Through this experiment I learned that I am more interested in famous people that I had originally thought. I had no idea that I spent so much time talking about them. I think one of the reasons that I did spend so much time talking about celebrities is because their lives seem to be so much more interesting then mine. For instance, I spent a bulk of my celebrity bashing time with my roommate who I normally spend a bulk of my time with. I think because we do spend so much time together we run out of things to talk about in our own lives that we shift to talk about celebrities. Although I think this may be a reason for why I talk about celebrities so much I do not consider it an excuse and after doing this experiment I am going to make a conscious effort to not spend so much time talking about them and more importantly bashing them.
