Mini Project #3 - Niki Ververelli

Okay, now that you know me by now, at least somewhat… you know that having to actually think about how often I talk about and look into what is going on in the lives of celebrities and their fame is kind of scary. I am surprised by the fact that the more stressed out I am about something going on in my life, the more likely I am then to read celebrity news and blogs. I think that it is my way for escape. In that escape, I latch onto the information that I read and I have the insane ability to make connections between what is going on currently and what has already happened. Back to my point though, I really do find it to be a way for me to think about something else entirely. Some play video games, others build models, and some use drugs or alcohol… I just read about celebrities to take five minutes to not think about what’s going on in my own life. I have three sites that I regularly visit which are www.perezhilton.com, www.pinkisthenewblog.com, and www.people.com. There are others which have the same information and whatnot, but these just happen to be my favorites.

What I have honestly considered is that so many guys that I know watch Sports Center religiously. They have to know what is going on in every sport, player and team statistics, and have a basic knowledge of scores from yesterday and that current day. Don’t get me wrong, I love sports, watching them and playing them, but what is the difference between knowing all of that information and knowing who is dating whom or who was in what movie? If Hollywood were a sport, the celebrities were players, and Access Hollywood was its Sports Center, then I could be Nancy O’Dell and the Oscars are the Super Bowl. I don’t know about you… but my friends and I have snacks and gather around the TV for the pre-show, actual show, and post-show. If you tell me that you or someone you know doesn’t do that for the Super Bowl, then you’re from Saturn.

Everyone has their thing that they enjoy for fun… a guilty pleasure if you will. Mine happens to be what is going on in Hollywood. I was most surprised at how much clearer my mind felt regarding my own issues after reading through a bunch of other people’s problems and goings-on. I don’t see it as I am not living my own life and instead am living vicariously through others’, but more so it is an entertaining form of reading material. I take everything with a grain of salt and I get overly dramatic for the fun of it, but basically, it’s just a hobby of mine. A lot of my friends don’t quite understand it, and that’s okay too, I’ll still answer their questions if they want to know what’s going on in Hollywood ;)
